This animation was completed as an entry into the Creative Conscience competition. The brief required an animation to accompany an audio of Sir Ken Robinson speaking on climate change.
The Cautionary Tale Of Teddy creates a imaginative and engaging narrative around the main beats in Sir Ken’s speech. The story follows Hugh (representing humanity) who sits comfortable and complacent at the centre of a destructive machine (named Teddy) that extracts material from the world around it on behalf of Hugh. Teddy eats up resources to keep Hugh comfortable, he does so to their tragic demise.
The animation poses a worrying but likely outcome of humanity’s overconsumption, which is a central driver of pollution and climate change. By presenting this outcome The Cautionary Tale Of Teddy aims to enact change in how people consume on a global scale by providing the imagery for Sir Ken Robinson’s message to resonate with the viewer.
